In this hands-on, beginner-friendly workshop, artist Arun Drummond invites you to create a one-of-a-kind mixed-media painting inspired by his bold, symbol-rich style. With step-by-step guidance, participants will learn how to incorporate paint and texture into their own expressive pieces, ending with Arun adding Sweetgrass to finish the piece. This special session will feature a painting experience rooted in Arun’s Matriarch series, which honors his grandmother and the legacy of strong women in his life. This workshop isn’t about imitation—it’s about discovering your rhythm, experimenting freely, and leaving with a finished piece that reflects your personal voice. All materials are provided, and no prior art experience is necessary.

The Creative South Ornaments

In celebration of the season, this special workshop will focus on creating one-of-a-kind ornaments inspired by Arun’s Southern roots and symbol-rich style. Each participant will start with a hand-painted silhouette provided by Arun, then decorate their figure with expressive colors and personal touches. To complete the piece, Arun will add a Sweetgrass basket to each, turning the ornament into a meaningful and collaborative keepsake for the holidays. This workshop encourages creative freedom, bold choices, and a relaxed approach to the art-making process. Whether you’re new to painting or an experienced artist, you’ll leave with a piece that speaks in your own voice through Arun’s distinctive lens.

Arun Drummond, a South Carolina native, brings nearly two decades of expertise in educating others about the rich culture of the coastal South and Lowcountry. A talented multi-disciplinary artist since 2004, his work has been featured on the Food Network and in Conde Nast Traveler.
