Come to FLOW Gallery + Workshop to meet our September Artist in Residence, Annie Moran, and learn about her love for mural design and the bayou scenery that inspires her. Raised in the backcountry of Louisiana, Annie refined her eye for the arts in the fashion industry in New York before returning to the Southern scenery that first defined her creativity. Now, Annie creates larger-than-life murals, paintings, and wall-papers that bring beauty and nature into every home.

Raised among the Spanish moss and mystique of the Louisiana bayou, Annie Moran honed her skills as an artist while communing with nature. During this workshop, she invites you along for the journey as she heads out into the wilds of Palmetto Bluff to observe the natural forms of our own Southern scenery. Participants will be provided with a bound sketchbook and join Annie as she guides you through the techniques used by scientists and artists to chronicle nature, sharing the mental health and creative benefits this art form brings with it. Properly prepared for the journey, you’ll venture forth to create your own sketches with charcoal, pencil, and ink.

Join New Orleans-based artist Annie Moran for a celebration of our local flora during this inspiring workshop centered on the art of watercolors. Paints, paper, and brushes will be provided as Annie takes you step-by-step through the process of creating your own watercolor image of a pink Japanese magnolia blossom, covering techniques such as wet-in-wet and glazing as you create your masterpiece. No drawing skills are required; as you trace the outline of the drawing, which you will eventually turn into a unique work of watercolor art all your own.

About the Artist
Annie Moran is a New Orleans–based artist and designer whose work celebrates the landscapes, culture, and spirit of Louisiana and the Gulf Coast. Born and raised in rural Louisiana, her imagination was shaped by abundant natural surroundings, a love of nature that still fuels her creativity today. After 12 years in New York as a fashion industry designer, she returned home to New Orleans, where she focuses on watercolor painting, mural art, and wallpaper and textile design. During her residency at Palmetto Bluff, Annie will guide participants through immersive experiences—including a Conservancy walk and sketch, mural and painting basics, and Lowcountry-inspired painting techniques—inviting guests to explore nature and place through observation and creative expression.
